I agree with Estrada that he was unconstitutionally ousted in what was –in essense– a coup de etat. I agree that there is an element of elitist bias in the double standard that society has imposed on Erap when it was so willing to support his ouster but at the same time is so willing to tolerate the plunder taking place today. And i must admit, I am personally pretty fond of Erap. He’s an unpretentious, easy-to-get-along-with guy with a quick bawdy wit and an intelligence that people don’t give him enough credit for.
But I am wary of people who seek the presidency merely to fulfill some personal agenda. There are people running for president today because its the ultimate entry in their resume. There are people running for office today because they want to enrich themselves. There are people running for office today because they want to avoid being charged with plunder. And there is Erap, who is running to reaffirm the people’s love for him. - Ricky Carandang
